Sometimes when you're three, you want to dip your goldfishy crackers in water.
And when I say sometimes, I mean today.
Joseph started it. He put one of his crackers in his little Dixie cup of water and, beaming, looked at his mom and said "swimming!!"
Well, apparently, anybody who is ANYBODY does that with goldfishy crackers, because a few minutes later, Paul and I were saddled with about seven three-year-olds all dumping goldfish crackers in their water cups and laughing up a storm.
While it was really, really funny, (and we LOVE funny) we also don't want to get a bunch of phone calls from parents who are like "why did you break my kid? How come he/she won't eat anything unless it has been dumped in water?"
So, Paul decided to introduce a little discipline. He turned to Jonah, who had just carefully placed about thirty raisins in his cup, and said "no, no, Jonah. We don't put snacks in our water..."
And Jonah looked up and grinned and said...
"But it's funny."
He was right. Funny is funny.

that jonah is so right on. i sort of hate it when ava beats my logic with hers. and at the same that i am hating it, i am also impressed. and i want to laugh, too.
there are a lot of emotions present when toddlers are around.

miriam- i can't imagine. the longer it takes us to have kids, the more i find myself thinking i have no idea how to do the whole parenting thing. i'm a big fan of laughing, though, so i guess i'll do a lot of that....
katie- i love that jonah totally remembered the whole goldfish thing. so glad our lesson on "goldfish are awesome" sunk in!!

I sometimes think the only reason my kids want a drink is so they can immerse their food. And I rarely find it as funny as they do.
However, the immutable truth remains: Funny is funny. Like yesterday after church when Greer was chasing Declan around and around the house, stark naked except for her sandals, laughing hysterically and whipping Declan with his own church shirt. There is no getting around the fact that it was funny. Even if it was also mildly disturbing.
erin- jonah is maybe one of the cutest kids i've ever known. that cute gravelly voice of his gets me every time!
